Celebrity Crypto Under Fire as MIKA Crashes 99% Following Developer Wallet Leak

MIKA Crypto Crashes 99% After Influencer’s Private Key Post Sparks Controversy

The MIKA cryptocurrency plunged approximately 99% within minutes after influencer Mika (@mikadontlouz) reportedly published her developer wallet’s private key instead of the token’s contract address. The incident triggered a rapid sell-off and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the token’s launch.

Mika, who has approximately 126,000 followers, posted the message “free yourselves knights / its time to eat. no cabal” alongside an 87-character string. Crypto traders quickly flagged the string as what appeared to be a private key rather than the intended Solana contract address.

Around 30 minutes later, Mika launched a second token using the Free Mika name. However, the relaunch also attracted scrutiny after reports indicated that one wallet held approximately 50% of the token supply. The new token subsequently fell about 84% from its peak.

The episode has fueled speculation over whether the original collapse was caused by an accidental disclosure, a poorly managed launch, or a more deliberate sequence of events. It has also renewed debate about celebrity-backed cryptocurrencies following the September collapse of Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP token.

MIKA Token Collapses After a Rapid Sell-Off

The first Free Mika (MIKA) token launched on pump.fun at approximately 1:36 p.m. and reached a market capitalization of $1.6 million within three minutes.

At around 1:40 p.m., Mika published her social media message alongside the lengthy string that traders identified as the developer wallet’s private key. The distinction was significant because a typical Solana contract address contains 44 characters, compared with the 87-character string she posted.

According to transaction data reported by Odaily, the creator’s address transferred approximately 500.44 million MIKA tokens, representing half of the initial supply, to another wallet. That wallet sold around 500.83 million tokens through PumpSwap just seven seconds later.

The resulting trades occurred at prices approximately 99% below earlier levels. By 1:53 p.m., the token’s market capitalization had dropped to approximately $85,500.

A second Free Mika token launched at 2:08 p.m. Mika shared its contract address a minute later, apparently correcting the earlier error. GeckoTerminal data showed the relaunch briefly reaching a market capitalization of approximately $1.5 million before falling below $300,000 within an hour.

The second token later recorded a market capitalization of around $240,000, liquidity of $41,700, and reported 24-hour trading volume of $1.65 million.

The controversy also triggered a wave of copycat projects. DexScreener listed more than a dozen similarly named tokens, including Free Mika King, Jail Mika, and Mute Mika.

Traders Question the Alleged Private Key Leak

The incident quickly divided the crypto community, with competing explanations emerging over what happened to the original token.

One widely shared account claimed Mika had lost $40,000 in a wallet drain and was discussing the incident during an X Spaces session while visibly distressed.

However, some traders challenged that narrative.

Solana trader fabiano.sol, who has approximately 88,000 followers, suggested that the incident might have been staged. He highlighted a screenshot showing a System Program account containing 80 bytes of data, consistent with a durable nonce account. Depending on its configuration, this type of account can complicate attempts to move funds using an exposed private key.

He also questioned the relaunch’s ownership distribution, noting that a developer-associated wallet reportedly controlled around half of the second token’s supply.

It remains unclear whether an outsider obtained the exposed key or whether an existing holder initiated the sell-off. The available transaction data does not conclusively identify who was responsible.

There is also no definitive evidence that Mika deliberately engineered the crash. An accidental clipboard error followed by a hurried relaunch remains a plausible explanation.

Nevertheless, the apparent key disclosure, the disputed $40,000 loss, questions about the wallet configuration, and the concentration of token ownership have intensified scrutiny of the project.

Celebrity Tokens Face Another Round of Market Skepticism

MIKA’s collapse follows several high-profile celebrity token launches that attracted substantial attention before experiencing dramatic price declines.

Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP token launched on Base on September 9 and reportedly reached $190.81 within two minutes. Its liquidity pool held approximately $48,000 before the token dropped to $3.70 within an hour.

Biden blamed a market maker and denied that his team had sold the token. Blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps later reported that approximately 80% of LAPTOP traders ended up underwater.

Other celebrity-linked cryptocurrencies have experienced similar reversals:

  • TRUMP: Launched in January 2025, the token peaked at $73.43 on January 19 before declining to approximately $1.67.
  • MELANIA: The token reached $13.05 on launch day before falling to around $0.08.
  • LIBRA: The token’s market capitalization exceeded $4 billion after Argentine President Javier Milei promoted it, but it lost more than 90% of its value within hours. Milei subsequently deleted the post.
  • YZY: Kanye West’s token peaked at $2.95 in August 2025 before dropping to approximately $0.29.
  • HAWK: Influencer Hailey Welch’s token lost more than 90% of its value within hours of its December 2024 launch.
  • MOTHER: Iggy Azalea’s token fell approximately 99.9% from its peak.

These examples highlight a recurring problem with celebrity-driven cryptocurrencies. A recognizable name can generate initial demand, but concentrated token ownership and limited liquidity can leave prices vulnerable to sudden selling pressure.

When large holders exit their positions, late buyers can suffer substantial losses. Meanwhile, the public figures associated with the projects may move on to other ventures.

Do Celebrity Tokens Offer Any Real Value?

Celebrity-backed cryptocurrencies continue to attract speculative interest, but their repeated price collapses raise questions about their long-term usefulness.

Many such tokens lack established products, recurring revenue, or clearly defined economic models. Their valuations often rely on social media attention, the creator’s popularity, and the expectation that new buyers will continue entering the market.

That dependence makes them vulnerable when public interest fades or large holders begin selling.

Blockchain analytics tools can help traders identify potential risks. Platforms such as Bubblemaps can reveal concentrated ownership, while on-chain transaction monitoring can highlight unusual transfers and large sell-offs.

However, transparency alone does not eliminate speculative behavior. The second MIKA token reportedly recorded $1.65 million in trading volume over 24 hours despite its steep decline.

The incident reinforces a familiar lesson from the memecoin market: celebrity attention can generate short-term demand, but it does not guarantee sustainable value, fair token distribution, or protection against losses.

Before buying a celebrity-backed token, investors should examine its liquidity, holder distribution, and transaction history rather than relying solely on social media promotion. In a market driven by hype, knowing who controls the supply may be just as important as knowing who launched the project.
