Sony Launches Soneium Incubation Drive for PlayStation and Anime Creators

Sony has introduced a new incubation program under its Soneium blockchain initiative to support entertainment projects involving PlayStation games, anime, and digital collectibles. The move could create fresh opportunities for blockchain-based gaming and fan experiences, although Sony has not confirmed any direct crypto integration into PlayStation.

The Sony Onchain Entertainment Incubation Program began accepting applications on October 29, with submissions open until December 2026. The initiative encourages startups and creators to build entertainment products on Soneium, Sony’s blockchain network.

Selected participants may receive technical infrastructure, marketing and business development assistance, community-building resources, and consideration for potential investment. Sony said the program is intended to help developers transform early-stage technical experiments into practical entertainment products that deliver value to users.

Sony’s Soneium Program Targets Gaming, Anime, and Digital Collectibles

The initiative covers a broad selection of entertainment industries, extending beyond traditional blockchain gaming. Target categories include console, PC, and mobile games, as well as anime, manga, music, films, esports, immersive experiences, and creator communities.

Sony is also encouraging projects that use blockchain technology to change how audiences engage with entertainment intellectual property. Possible applications include digital collectibles, fan communities, merchandise, and interactive platforms that allow users to participate more directly in creator-led ecosystems.

Applicants must demonstrate a clear relationship between entertainment content, intellectual property, and blockchain technology. Projects must integrate Soneium, although multichain approaches are acceptable when the network plays a meaningful role.

Sony has already developed an incubation track record through two previous initiatives. Soneium Spark selected 32 projects from more than 1,700 applications in 2024, while Soneium For All chose 11 projects from over 250 submissions in 2025.

The latest program builds on those efforts by placing greater emphasis on entertainment applications. Sony is looking for products that connect digital assets, content, and fan communities to encourage ongoing participation.

PlayStation Crypto Speculation Returns Without Confirmed Integration

The announcement has renewed interest in Sony’s blockchain strategy, particularly the possibility of future projects involving PlayStation. The program specifically includes PlayStation games among its target categories, allowing independent developers and startups to explore entertainment products compatible with Soneium.

Anime is another major focus, reflecting the strong fan communities surrounding popular franchises and character-based intellectual property. Developers could use blockchain technology to create digital collectibles and new ways for audiences to interact with entertainment brands.

However, Sony has not announced plans to introduce cryptocurrency payments, tokens, or other blockchain features directly into PlayStation games. The program instead supports independent teams developing entertainment experiences through Soneium’s infrastructure.

Applications are expected to be reviewed between November 2026 and March 2027, with selected projects receiving support on a rolling basis. Participation does not guarantee funding, as investment opportunities will be assessed separately.

Sony’s latest initiative highlights its broader ambition to expand Soneium’s entertainment ecosystem. By supporting developers across gaming, anime, and digital collectibles, the company aims to encourage blockchain applications that provide practical value to creators, businesses, and fans.
