Bitcoin reclaims $90,000 as Trump softens stance on Greenland at Davos

Bitcoin rebounded toward the $90,000 mark on Wednesday morning in U.S. trading after former President Donald Trump adopted a more conciliatory tone on Greenland during a keynote address at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Speaking to global leaders, Trump said he was seeking negotiations to revisit the potential acquisition of Greenland, stressing that any discussions would not involve military force or pose a threat to NATO. “All I’m asking is a piece of ice,” he quipped, adding that the move would be pursued through dialogue rather than coercion.

Trump also said he plans to announce the next Federal Reserve chair “in the not too distant future,” suggesting that while all candidates appear capable during interviews, “they change once they get the job.” He again criticized current Fed Chair Jerome Powell, whom he appointed during his first term, calling him “terrible” and accusing him of acting too slowly on policy.

Bitcoin climbed as much as 2.2% from session lows to briefly retake $90,000, recovering from recent losses. The move came as risk assets stabilized following several days of selling pressure driven by fears of escalating tensions between the U.S. and Europe over Greenland. Trump had previously threatened tariffs on several European countries, unsettling global markets.

Meanwhile, gold retreated from a fresh record near $4,900, giving back part of its earlier gains as investor appetite shifted back toward risk assets.
