Binance Hack Fallout Reaches India as Leading Exchange Scales Back Futures Trading

India’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, CoinDCX, has placed temporary limits on futures trading after Binance’s security incident disrupted one of its major liquidity sources. The restriction blocks users from opening new positions, while existing customer funds and account services remain unaffected.

CoinDCX announced the change on X, stating that its futures market had moved into “reduce-only” mode in response to recent developments involving a global liquidity provider.

Although the exchange did not identify the provider in its public announcement, a CoinDCX spokesperson confirmed to CoinDesk that the disruption was linked to Binance.

The new trading arrangement prevents users from creating fresh futures positions or increasing their existing long and short trades. However, traders can continue adjusting margin on open positions, and previously submitted orders remain active and can still be executed.

CoinDCX stressed that its deposit and withdrawal services are operating normally and that customer assets remain secure.

The restriction is temporary and applies only to futures trading. However, the exchange has not provided a specific timeline for restoring normal market operations.

The development highlights how problems at major cryptocurrency liquidity providers can affect other trading platforms. Exchanges that depend on external venues may need to reduce market exposure when those providers experience security incidents, even if their own infrastructure has not been compromised.

CoinDCX Depends on Binance for Futures Market Liquidity

CoinDCX sources a considerable share of its futures liquidity from large international cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance.

The company’s institutional documentation describes systems that receive order-book data from Binance for USDT-margined perpetual contracts and use those connections to route trading activity.

Despite this integration, CoinDCX operates on a much smaller scale than major global derivatives platforms such as Binance and Deribit.

CoinGecko figures show that the exchange recorded slightly more than $1 million in combined spot and futures trading volume over the previous 24 hours.

Binance Security Incident Estimated at $6.3 Billion

The restrictions followed a major security breach reported by Binance on October 29–30. The world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange estimated the incident’s financial impact at approximately $6.3 billion in digital assets.

According to Binance’s initial findings, a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer may have allowed the attacker to access a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal requests.

The exchange said its investigation had found no indication that wallet private keys were exposed.
