XRP Ledger Batch Upgrade Moves Closer to Launch as Demand Is Tested
XRP has risen 22.2% over the last seven days to $1.58 as the XRP Ledger’s revised Batch amendment moves toward a September 29 activation deadline. Thirty of the network’s 35 validators had approved the amendment by September 20, keeping the proposal above the required threshold while leaving the final outcome dependent on continued validator support.
The upgrade could significantly expand the ledger’s transaction capabilities, but that does not necessarily mean it will create fresh demand for XRP. The distinction is particularly relevant as traders track XRP’s derivatives positioning and open interest ahead of the activation date.
How the Batch Upgrade Works
The Batch amendment allows two to eight standard XRP Ledger transactions to be combined into a single outer transaction. That outer transaction determines how the bundled operations are executed, with four modes available for different transaction requirements.
The All or Nothing mode could be especially useful for institutional settlement. It allows the transfer of an asset and its associated payment to either complete together or be canceled together, reducing the risk of one side settling without the other.
The amendment also allows exchanges, wallets and marketplaces to incorporate their fees into a customer transaction. As a result, the fee and the underlying transaction can be settled as part of the same operation.
Why Validator Support Still Matters
Batch needs at least 28 of the XRP Ledger’s 35 validators to support it, equivalent to more than 80%, for 14 consecutive days before activation can occur.
With 30 validators backing the amendment as of September 20, the current schedule points to activation on September 29 at 14:06 UTC, provided the support level does not change.
Validators can still modify their votes before the deadline. If support falls below the required level, the 14-day period resets, potentially pushing activation back by several weeks.
XRPL’s published amendment rules show that two of the 30 current supporters could still reverse their positions before the voting window expires.
The latest version of Batch also follows an earlier setback. A previous version was withdrawn in 2026 after auditors found a vulnerability that could have allowed unauthorized transactions. No user funds were affected.
The updated amendment was released on September 14 and has passed three external reviews. It has now reached the final validator-voting stage, its closest point to activation since the earlier version was withdrawn.
More Functionality Does Not Automatically Mean More XRP Demand
The amendment’s current level of validator support puts it on track for activation, but it does not indicate how much demand the feature could generate for XRP.
Batch does not require XRP to operate. Therefore, the ability to bundle multiple transactions into a single atomic operation does not automatically create a need to purchase or hold more XRP.
The potential effect on the token will depend largely on real-world adoption. If asset managers currently testing Batch move actual production transactions onto the XRP Ledger, greater settlement activity could eventually lead to additional liquidity requirements.
Ripple’s delivery-versus-payment functionality may make the network more useful for institutional transactions, but network adoption and token demand remain separate variables.
XRP’s recent advance also coincided with a broader market move. The token gained 22.2% over the week, while Bitcoin increased 13.9%.
The simultaneous gains do not demonstrate that Batch expectations were responsible for XRP’s rally. Current market data does not establish the upgrade as the specific catalyst behind the move.
What Comes After the September 29 Deadline
If validator support stays above the required threshold, the Batch amendment is scheduled to activate on September 29 at 14:06 UTC, bringing its all-or-nothing settlement functionality onto the live XRP Ledger.
Should support fall below the threshold, the 14-day voting cycle will restart and the activation date will be delayed.
Once the amendment goes live, actual usage will become the key indicator to watch. If the asset managers and commercial projects referenced by Akinyele begin processing live transactions through Batch, the feature could contribute to greater institutional activity on the XRP Ledger.
If adoption remains limited, the upgrade could still improve the network’s technical capabilities without producing a meaningful increase in XRP demand. The technology would advance, but whether that progress translates into stronger token demand would remain an open question.
