NEAR ETF Puts Near Protocol Back in the Institutional Conversation

Bitwise Investment Advisers’ Bitwise NEAR Protocol ETF, identified by the ticker NRR, is structured to hold NEAR directly and potentially increase its holdings through staking rewards. The prospectus names NYSE Arca as the expected exchange and outlines how the proposed fund would operate.

NRR’s primary mandate is to reflect the value of the NEAR held by the Trust, after accounting for operating costs and other liabilities. The fund’s secondary objective is to earn additional NEAR through staking, combining direct token exposure with a potential source of on-chain rewards.

Bitwise’s official fund website lists September 28, 2026, as the product’s inception date and identifies NYSE Arca as its exchange. The SEC prospectus uses prospective language for the listing, with the filing setting out the proposed terms and the fund website supplying separate operational details.

The narrative around NEAR’s role in AI and the agentic economy has also contributed to attention around the ETF. Still, the filing’s investment structure is based on direct NEAR holdings and potential staking. Interest in AI applications could affect demand for the token, but it does not change NRR’s exposure to NEAR’s price or ensure staking rewards will protect investors against declines.

How NRR Holds and Stakes NEAR

Coinbase Custody Trust Company is responsible for safeguarding the Trust’s NEAR in segregated accounts. The Trust can stake part or all of those holdings, while staking agents chosen by the sponsor operate the associated validators.

For valuation, NRR uses the CME CF NEAR Protocol, Dollar Reference Rate, New York Variant, which is calculated from executed transactions across major NEAR markets. The fund has a 0.75% annual unitary management fee based on its NEAR holdings.

Any staking rewards earned by the Trust become part of its assets and can increase the NAV per share. However, staking returns vary with network conditions and are not equivalent to a fixed coupon. Validator performance, staking-agent operations and access to staked assets are also factors in the strategy.

NRR creates and redeems shares through baskets of 10,000 handled by authorized participants. This structure helps connect the number of outstanding shares with the NEAR attributable to each share. Investors buying or selling on an exchange can nevertheless encounter premiums or discounts relative to NAV.

Brokerage expenses, the fund’s management fee and any difference between the market price and NAV can all influence realized investor returns.

Key Levels for NEAR After the ETF Launch

NEAR attracted fresh attention after Bitwise launched its spot NEAR ETF, NRR, on September 29. The fund reportedly saw roughly $50 million in inflows during its first two trading sessions, reinforcing expectations of renewed institutional interest in the token.

Trading activity also drew attention in South Korea, where participants reportedly earned $40,000 from a long NEAR position during a semifinal of a trading competition.

On the chart, the $4.50-$4.65 area remains an important zone for buyers. If NEAR holds that support and moves above $5.00, the next targets could be $5.50 and the psychological $6.00 level.

A break below $4.50 would weaken the setup and could leave the token vulnerable to a move toward $4.00.

The sustainability of the rally will depend on whether ETF inflows continue and whether staking-related activity produces lasting demand for NEAR.

NEAR’s expanding use in AI infrastructure and cross-chain transactions could offer further catalysts. Yet the token’s recent gains have also increased expectations, making ETF flows, trading volume and broader crypto-market sentiment crucial indicators for its next major move.
