Crypto and Stocks Come to X as Musk’s Platform Teams Up With Major Brokers

X is expanding its financial features by giving U.S. users a direct route from crypto and stock discussions to external trading platforms.

Users can tap cashtags such as $BTC or $TSLA to see real-time prices, charts and posts about the asset. A new “Trade” button then directs them to one of five partner services — Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken or Coinbase — where they can sign in or open an account and place their trade.

The transactions are not executed on X. The social platform acts as a bridge between its market-related content and the partner brokers or exchanges, which handle the actual purchases and sales.

Cashtags have been a feature of X for several years, allowing users to follow market conversations around individual assets. The company upgraded the functionality earlier this year by adding live pricing and charts.

The latest integration is part of Elon Musk’s continuing effort to broaden X’s role beyond social networking and into financial services.

“Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself,” said Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead.

The feature also draws on X’s substantial reach. The platform has millions of users globally, with daily engagement estimated at around 132 million through mobile devices and more than 245 million across all devices.

For crypto markets, X has become a major venue for real-time discussion. Posts from well-known industry figures can circulate rapidly and influence sentiment and liquidity across exchanges worldwide.

That influence has helped give X a “town-square” character that differs from platforms such as Discord and Telegram, where conversations are frequently divided between private groups and channels.

With trading now linked directly to cashtags, X is creating a shorter path from market discovery and discussion to the platforms where users can execute trades.
