Ripple Links Privy Wallets to XRPL as AI Payments Reach 14.3 Million
The integration will enable software to purchase online services through XRP and RLUSD, but questions remain over whether the rising number of transactions translates into significant real-world economic activity.
Ripple is bringing wallet infrastructure developed by Stripe-owned Privy to the XRP Ledger, allowing financial applications and AI agents to create accounts, store digital assets and make payments without requiring users to manage wallet software themselves.
According to a release shared with CoinDesk, developers will be able to embed wallets into their applications and facilitate transfers involving XRP, Ripple’s dollar-pegged RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the network.
The technology could allow payment companies to offer dollar-denominated transfers while sparing customers the responsibility of managing the private keys needed to authorize transactions.
Privy handles the wallet infrastructure, reducing the technical work developers must undertake to build similar systems. The platform also supports exporting private keys and recovery phrases, allowing users to transfer their wallets to other services.
Companies could also supply AI agents and automated bots with funded wallets so they can pay for online services independently. Privy’s documentation explains that wallets managed on company servers can store and spend funds, including through x402, a payment standard designed to facilitate access to paid data and other digital services.
For instance, an AI agent requesting premium data can receive a payment request, approve the transfer and access the information after the payment is confirmed. This enables software to pay for individual requests automatically without requiring human approval at every checkout.
CoinDesk approached the XRP Ledger Foundation for details about applications using the integration and data showing how much of the network’s payment activity originates from AI agents.
The announcement follows reports of increasing automated payment activity on the XRP Ledger.
Last week, RippleX Head of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele said on X that the network had processed more than 13 million agent payments through x402, accounting for roughly 25% of ledger activity.
Figures from the XRPL AI Hub, operated by payments infrastructure developer t54, showed that cumulative transactions had exceeded 14.3 million across 169 registered merchants as of Wednesday.
Despite the high transaction count, the total value transferred remains comparatively modest.
The dashboard recorded approximately 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD in cumulative payments. The figures indicate that many transactions involve small amounts, suggesting that automated software is primarily paying for individual requests rather than making large financial transfers.
Ripple introduced developer tools for these payment functions in June, allowing AI agents to create wallets, check balances and pay for services using XRP or RLUSD. In September, the company expanded the toolkit to accommodate a payment standard developed by Stripe and payments blockchain Tempo. The update also introduced a way to fund repeated requests with XRP rather than settling each transaction separately.

Tuesday’s announcement outlined plans to expand the integration over time, with additional features expected to include spending policy controls and mechanisms for covering users’ network fees.
However, integrating a wallet into an application does not remove the need to provide funds before it can process transactions.
Privy’s documentation states that a new XRP Ledger account must receive the network’s minimum reserve of 1 XRP before activation. This means an initial XRP deposit is necessary even when the account is intended only to send dollar-pegged stablecoins such as RLUSD.
