No BTC Sale: Metaplanet Addresses $320M Bitcoin Transfer

Metaplanet Clarifies $320M Bitcoin Transfer, Denies Any Sale

Metaplanet has dismissed speculation that it was selling Bitcoin after a major BTC transfer linked to the company sparked concerns about a potential liquidation.

CEO Simon Gerovich said the movement of 5,014 BTC was an internal custody transfer rather than a sale. He confirmed that the company did not sell any Bitcoin and still holds 43,000 BTC.

According to blockchain tracking data, the 5,014 BTC was moved between Metaplanet-controlled custodial addresses over a 24-hour period. The coins were worth around $320 million at the time, prompting speculation that the company could be preparing to reduce its Bitcoin position.

Gerovich said the transaction was part of Metaplanet’s normal custody operations and should not be interpreted as a change in its Bitcoin treasury strategy.

The episode comes as corporate Bitcoin holders face growing attention from investors. Market participants are watching major treasury companies for signs that they could reduce BTC exposure to secure profits, cover financial obligations or strengthen their balance sheets.

Strategy has recently sold some Bitcoin to support dividends on its STRC preferred stock, repurchase STRC shares and replenish its U.S. dollar reserves.
