Institutional DeFi Emerges as Key Theme for TOKEN2049 Singapore 2026

TOKEN2049 Singapore will bring traditional financial institutions and crypto-native firms together on October 7–8, 2026, with institutional DeFi emerging as a major theme in the published program. The confirmed speaker list includes senior figures from Nasdaq, BlackRock, Franklin Templeton and Morgan Stanley, alongside leaders from Hyperliquid, Solana, Polygon, Base and Ethereum-related projects.

Nasdaq Chair and CEO Adena Friedman, BlackRock Director of Digital Assets Nikhil Sharma, Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson and Morgan Stanley Head of Digital Asset Strategy Amy Oldenburg are among the financial-industry executives listed for the event.

They will appear alongside crypto-sector figures including Hyperliquid Labs’ Jeff Yan, Base’s Jesse Pollak, Solana Foundation’s Lily Liu, Polygon Foundation’s Sandeep Nailwal and Joseph Lubin, who is listed in connection with Ethereum and MetaMask.

The roster also includes executives associated with Aave, Ethena, Synthetix, StarkWare and Offchain Labs. Together, the speakers represent areas ranging from decentralized finance and blockchain networks to scaling technology and digital-asset market infrastructure.

Institutional DeFi Takes the Spotlight

The convergence between traditional finance and decentralized markets is directly addressed in the scheduled “DeFi’s Institutional Breakthrough” panel. Aave Labs founder Stani Kulechov, Ethena Labs founder Guy Young and Infinex/Synthetix founder Kain Warwick are listed as speakers, with a16z crypto’s Robbie Petersen set to moderate.

Hyperliquid also has a dedicated main-stage session, “Hyperliquid: Rebuilding Finance from First Principles,” featuring Jeff Yan.

These listings establish the conference’s intended discussion topics but should not be interpreted as confirmation of commercial agreements or institutional deployments involving the organizations represented.

For financial firms evaluating on-chain products, the discussion extends beyond individual protocols. Custody arrangements, transaction execution and operational controls are important infrastructure considerations, particularly for institutions managing cryptographic keys and executing transactions on blockchain networks.

Key Sessions on October 7

The October 7 schedule opens with “Welcome to TOKEN2049 Singapore” on the OKX Main Stage from 9:00 to 9:10 a.m. It is followed by Balaji Srinivasan’s “The Open Source Network State” keynote, scheduled from 9:10 to 9:30 a.m.

The program then moves into investment, DeFi and trading infrastructure. “DeFi’s Institutional Breakthrough” is set for 10:20–11:00 a.m., followed by “Hyperliquid: Rebuilding Finance from First Principles” from 11:00 to 11:35 a.m.

The agenda also features sessions titled “Wall St. 2049: Everything Trades, Nobody Sleeps” and “The New Trilemma: Confidential, Compliant, Composable,” along with discussions covering on-chain options, derivatives and the U.S. market.

The subject mix brings several institutional concerns together. Privacy and compliance are being discussed alongside derivatives and always-on trading, while the institutional DeFi session focuses on how established financial participants could engage with decentralized markets.

TOKEN2049 Institutional and Market Infrastructure

A separate TOKEN2049 Institutional event is scheduled for October 8. Organizers describe the gathering as private and invitation-only, targeting senior leaders across global finance and the digital-asset industry.

Hyperliquid’s participation adds another dimension to the institutional market discussion. The derivatives-focused platform has a dedicated session, while separate reporting has examined Hyperliquid data appearing on the Bloomberg Terminal.

Neither point alone demonstrates a commercial relationship between the companies involved or represented at the conference.

Tokenization is another recurring element of the institutional-finance conversation. Moving securities onto blockchain rails could reshape how assets are issued, transferred and traded.

The broader TOKEN2049 Singapore agenda therefore places institutional DeFi within a wider shift toward on-chain financial infrastructure, where traditional financial firms, decentralized protocols, tokenized assets and professional trading venues increasingly operate within the same market conversation.
