Ethereum in Focus: Vitalik’s Devcon Costume and Bitmine’s Latest ETH Accumulation

Vitalik Buterin’s Devcon Cosplay Turns Heads as Bitmine Pushes Ethereum Holdings Toward 5% of Supply

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin became an unexpected highlight at Devcon 8 after appearing before attendees in a green cloak and a smiling mask. His unusual outfit brought a humorous moment to the Mumbai conference, even as Bitmine Immersion Technologies continued increasing its Ethereum treasury with another purchase of 8,573 ETH.

The costume looked more like something from a fantasy game than the attire expected at a major blockchain event. While developers and researchers gathered to discuss Ethereum’s future, Buterin’s appearance offered a lighter moment amid conversations about network scalability, adoption, and market performance.

Bitmine, however, is focused on a much larger financial objective: accumulating enough ETH to represent 5% of the cryptocurrency’s total supply.

As of November 1, the company held 6,060,506 ETH, valued at approximately $13.7 billion using a price of $2,261 per token. Its position now accounts for around 4.9% of Ethereum’s supply, putting it close to its target.

Bitmine’s Latest ETH Purchase Adds to Its Growing Treasury

Devcon 8 is taking place in Mumbai between November 3 and November 6, bringing together Ethereum developers, researchers, and ecosystem participants for technical sessions, presentations, and workshops.

Buterin’s appearance added an unexpected cultural moment to the event. However, Bitmine’s latest buying activity has attracted attention for a different reason: the company’s expanding influence as a major corporate Ethereum holder.

The company acquired another 8,573 ETH during the latest reported week, worth approximately $19.4 million at the disclosed valuation. Its combined portfolio of digital assets, cash, and other investments reached $14.5 billion.

The treasury also includes 216 BTC and approximately $498 million in cash and marketable securities.

Bitmine has committed most of its Ethereum holdings to staking. Its current staked balance stands at 5.23 million ETH, representing roughly 86% of its total position.

The company estimates that its existing staking allocation could generate about $358 million in annualized rewards. If it eventually stakes its entire ETH treasury, potential annualized rewards could reach approximately $415 million.

This creates an additional income stream alongside its long-term exposure to Ethereum’s price. Rather than relying solely on appreciation, Bitmine can earn rewards by participating in the network’s proof-of-stake system.

Ethereum Price Outlook: Can ETH Reach $5,000 Again?

Bitmine’s continued accumulation has strengthened the argument that institutional treasury demand could support Ethereum over the longer term. Its holdings now represent nearly 5% of the asset’s supply, while staking places a significant portion of those tokens outside immediate trading circulation.

Bitmine Chairman Tom Lee has maintained an optimistic outlook for ETH, suggesting the cryptocurrency could revisit its previous all-time high of approximately $4,954 before the end of 2026. He has also identified $6,000 as a potential year-end price target.

At $2,261, Ethereum would need to advance around 119% to return to $4,954. A rally to $6,000 would require a gain of approximately 165%.

However, the market has yet to establish the technical strength needed to support such a recovery. The $2,315 area remains an important resistance level, identified through recent moving-average analysis.

A sustained breakout above this zone could improve bullish momentum. If buyers fail to reclaim it, Ethereum could face continued downside pressure.

ETF Withdrawals Keep Ethereum’s Recovery Uncertain

Corporate accumulation has not yet been matched by consistent demand across the wider investment market.

US spot Ethereum ETFs experienced substantial outflows in October, highlighting continued weakness in institutional investment through exchange-traded products. The withdrawals also suggest that Bitmine’s purchases have not been enough to produce a clear market reversal.

The contrast leaves Ethereum with a mixed outlook. Bitmine’s growing treasury and substantial staking position demonstrate long-term confidence, but ETF outflows and weak price action remain significant concerns.

A move toward $5,000 or $6,000 would likely require stronger market demand and a sustained improvement in technical conditions.

Buterin’s green cloak and smiling mask may have captured the attention of Devcon attendees, but Bitmine’s latest acquisition carries a more direct implication for Ethereum’s institutional investment story.

With its holdings approaching the 5% supply milestone and most of its ETH already staked, Bitmine is making a substantial commitment to the network. Whether that confidence translates into a major price rally will depend on renewed investor demand, ETF activity, and ETH’s ability to break through resistance.
