Crypto Markets Brace for US Midterms as Trump’s Stimulus Plan and Iran Crisis Add Pressure

Three Midterm Election Developments That Could Drive Crypto Markets: Trump’s $5,000 Plan and Iran Tensions

The November 3 US midterm elections could create fresh uncertainty for cryptocurrency markets as investors assess the potential impact of changing congressional control on economic policy, digital asset regulation, and geopolitical risks.

Republicans are campaigning to preserve their influence in Congress, while Democrats are seeking to win back control of at least one legislative chamber. The outcome will help determine whether President Donald Trump can advance his economic proposals or faces stronger opposition from lawmakers.

Three issues are drawing particular attention from crypto investors: Trump’s proposed $5,000 dividend for American adults, the future of the stalled Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act, and rising tensions between the United States and Iran.

Although the election is unlikely to immediately alter the fundamentals of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, it could change expectations for market liquidity, regulatory developments, and investor confidence.

1. Trump’s $5,000 Dividend Could Raise Expectations for Crypto Demand

Trump has pledged to provide a $5,000 payment to adult US citizens if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress. The proposal could reach approximately 240 million adults, potentially requiring $1.2 trillion in funding. Trump has indicated that tariff revenue could contribute toward covering the cost.

A Republican victory could improve the proposal’s political prospects and strengthen expectations for higher household spending. Additional cash entering the economy could also support demand for financial assets, including cryptocurrencies.

Previous stimulus programs offer some context for how government payments can affect Bitcoin activity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans received direct payments while the Federal Reserve pursued aggressive monetary easing. The combination of fiscal support and abundant liquidity coincided with a significant cryptocurrency rally.

Research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland found that the 2020 stimulus payments increased Bitcoin buying volume by 3.8%, although their direct influence on the cryptocurrency’s price was relatively modest.

The broader 2020–2021 market rally also reflected historically low interest rates, increasing institutional adoption, and strong liquidity conditions. If another stimulus program is approved, retail investors could have additional funds available for Bitcoin and other risk-oriented investments.

There are, however, potential obstacles. Trump’s dividend proposal has not been approved, and any increase in inflation expectations or Treasury yields could counteract the positive effect of additional spending. A Democratic victory could also make congressional approval more difficult.

2. Election Results Could Determine the CLARITY Act’s Progress

The future of US cryptocurrency regulation is another important issue surrounding the midterms. The Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act is intended to establish clearer rules for digital assets and define how regulatory responsibilities should be divided among US authorities.

The proposal has encountered delays after failing to clear a Senate procedural vote in September. Its next steps could depend partly on the political balance following the election.

Continued Republican control could improve the bill’s chances of advancing. However, lawmakers would still need sufficient bipartisan support to overcome the remaining legislative challenges.

If Democrats regain control of the House, Trump’s crypto-related business interests and political connections could receive greater scrutiny. More congressional investigations and oversight could divert attention from legislation, potentially extending the regulatory uncertainty facing the industry.

A Democratic victory would not necessarily close the door on crypto-friendly regulation. There is still scope for lawmakers from both parties to agree on clearer digital asset rules. However, the final legislation could contain changes that differ from the current proposal.

3. Escalating Iran Tensions Could Weigh on Risk Assets

Geopolitical developments may prove just as important as the election outcome for cryptocurrency prices.

The United States recently carried out limited strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Islands near the Strait of Hormuz, reviving concerns about a wider military confrontation. Diplomatic discussions between the two countries continued, but the possibility of further escalation remained unresolved.

An expanding conflict could undermine investor confidence and place pressure on risk-sensitive assets, including cryptocurrencies. This means even a favorable political outcome for the crypto industry may not be enough to support prices if geopolitical conditions deteriorate.

A Republican victory, stronger expectations for stimulus, progress on the CLARITY Act, and reduced tensions with Iran could create a more supportive environment for digital assets.

Alternatively, a Democratic victory could introduce uncertainty around the administration’s regulatory agenda, while a renewed escalation in the Middle East could weigh on markets regardless of which party controls Congress.

What the Midterms Could Mean for Bitcoin and Altcoins

The US midterm elections present a combination of potential catalysts and downside risks for the cryptocurrency market. Trump’s proposed $5,000 dividend could encourage optimism about future liquidity, while the CLARITY Act could influence the industry’s regulatory outlook.

However, neither development is guaranteed to produce an immediate market rally. The stimulus proposal still requires approval, and crypto legislation faces further political and procedural hurdles.

For investors, the more important question may be whether improving domestic policy expectations can offset inflation concerns, rising Treasury yields, and geopolitical instability.

The election could shape the political environment for crypto, but the market’s next significant move may ultimately depend on actual changes in liquidity, regulatory progress, and the direction of the Iran conflict.
