Coinbase’s Base Chain Reboots After Service Interruption Pauses Activity

The disruption briefly stopped transaction processing on one of Ethereum’s largest layer-2 networks.

Coinbase-backed Base restored block production on Thursday after a roughly two-hour outage halted the chain.

In a status update, the Base team said the network is now functioning normally, with internal nodes syncing correctly. The root cause is still under investigation, and node operators were advised to restart their systems to regain full synchronization.

The first indication of issues came at 16:03 UTC, when Base reported that mainnet block production had turned “unhealthy.” By 16:52 UTC, the team said it had identified the problem and was working through several fixes.

The outage temporarily froze activity across the network. Base has not yet revealed what caused the invalid block or whether the failure was due to a software bug or a consensus-related issue.

The network had previously experienced a similar outage in August 2025.

The team added that it will continue to monitor stability and provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
