ADA Blockchain Expands Real-World Use With 500,000 Supply-Chain Records
The Cardano Foundation and Brazilian technology company Blockforce have expanded their blockchain-based supply-chain solution into production, with Cardano now serving as the public verification layer for enterprise records.
The platform is already being used by some of Brazil’s largest fashion groups and has recorded more than 500,000 supply-chain entries on the Cardano network.
The partnership addresses a fundamental issue facing regulated supply chains: companies need to demonstrate that records are legitimate without exposing confidential business information. A private database protects sensitive details but makes independent verification difficult, while putting complete records on a public blockchain could expose supplier identities, prices and contract agreements.
Blockforce uses a hybrid architecture to address both concerns. Detailed supply-chain information is maintained on a permissioned network that is accessible only to authorized participants. Instead of publishing that data publicly, the system anchors cryptographic proofs to Cardano. This allows auditors, regulators and customers to verify the integrity of a record without gaining access to the underlying information.
Blockchain Costs Fall 92%
The cost of recording large numbers of supply-chain records on a public blockchain has been one of the main obstacles to deploying such systems at scale. A solution that works for a limited pilot can become considerably more expensive when expanded across hundreds or thousands of suppliers.
According to the two organizations, their joint engineering efforts have reduced the cost of anchoring each record by 92%. They say the improvement helped move the platform beyond the proof-of-concept phase and into production at a much larger scale.
More than 500,000 records have already been anchored using the system.
Blockforce’s technical materials identify Hyperledger Fabric as the permissioned network supporting the detailed supply-chain records, alongside additional storage infrastructure.
The Cardano Foundation’s case study outlines the broader architecture, including the uVerify component and the batching mechanism used to combine certificates into Cardano transactions before they are recorded on-chain.
Guilherme Pereira, Ecosystem Growth Specialist for LATAM at the Cardano Foundation, described the development as an infrastructure milestone. The system is designed to combine the transparency of public blockchain verification with the confidentiality requirements of commercial supply chains.
