ONDO Token Climbs After SEC Wraps Up Investigation of RWA Tokenization

Ondo Finance’s native token rose on Monday after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) closed a confidential investigation into the platform, clearing a major regulatory hurdle for tokenized real-world assets (RWA).

The SEC launched the probe in 2024 under former Chairman Gary Gensler to determine whether Ondo’s tokenization of certain assets complied with federal securities laws and whether the ONDO token itself should be classified as a security. The investigation concluded without any charges, Ondo confirmed in a post on X.

“Now that the investigation is closed, the overhang on Ondo and the tokenization of assets is gone, signaling a clear path forward,” said an Ondo spokesperson.

The development comes amid a broader easing of regulatory pressure on crypto platforms. Industry observers note that the current SEC leadership has taken a more supportive stance toward tokenization compared with previous years.

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins has highlighted tokenization as a key innovation for capital markets. Speaking to FOX Business, he said tokenized assets could reshape the financial system in the coming years by enhancing liquidity, transparency, and market access for investors.
