Israel Crypto Broker Bits of Gold Hit by Breach Affecting 200K Users

  • Bits of Gold, Israel’s largest cryptocurrency broker, said hackers gained access to personal data associated with approximately 200,000 customers, while no customer funds or digital assets were compromised.
  • The Tel Aviv-based company announced the breach Sunday, saying the attacker obtained unauthorized access to a third-party analytics network. The information potentially exposed included names, national identification numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses, bank account details and public wallet addresses.
  • After identifying the incident, Bits of Gold said it immediately restricted access and disconnected the affected system from its data sources, ending the unauthorized connection.
  • The broker said its investigation found no evidence that customer funds, private keys, passwords, CVV codes or scanned identity documents were accessed.
  • Bits of Gold’s initial findings indicate that the breach may have been part of a larger international cyber incident that targeted multiple companies simultaneously.
  • The attack comes shortly after two other data breaches involving crypto companies. A third-party vendor breach exposed information connected to nearly 40,000 SafePal users, while almost 14,000 Trezor customers were affected on Aug. 13 after its fulfillment partner, ShipMonk, was compromised.
  • Bits of Gold said its security team is conducting a comprehensive investigation with assistance from an outside cybersecurity firm specializing in incident response. The company again assured customers that their funds and crypto assets remain safe.
  • Established in 2013, Bits of Gold was the first Israeli crypto company to receive a permanent Financial Services Provider license. The company, led by CEO Youval Rouach, now serves more than 250,000 customers and holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification.
  • The broker also urged customers to watch for phishing attempts, stressing that it will never request passwords, verification codes, private keys or transfers of funds.
