BTC Reclaims $78,300 in Strong Reversal as Election Jitters Subside

Bitcoin staged a sharp recovery from its overnight losses as the U.S. midterm election results eased uncertainty across financial markets, prompting renewed buying interest in cryptocurrencies.

The largest cryptocurrency briefly slipped below $76,000 early Wednesday after reports confirmed that Democrats had won control of both chambers of Congress, a political setback for crypto-friendly President Donald Trump. However, BTC quickly reversed its decline, recovering above $78,000 and trading near $78,300, up almost 1% at the time of writing.

Dick Lo, founder of TDX Strategies, attributed the recovery largely to the removal of election-related uncertainty.

Speaking to CoinDesk, Lo said Bitcoin initially faced selling pressure following the Democratic victory but rebounded as investors gained greater clarity about the political landscape.

He explained that Democratic control of Congress is generally viewed as an obstacle to pro-crypto legislation. However, a divided government could also limit the possibility of major policy changes that could adversely affect the digital asset industry.

Lo added that Trump retains the ability to advance certain policies through executive orders and use his veto authority to block legislation proposed by Democrats.

Nicolas Quatravaux, head of EMEA at Paradigm, similarly said the market reaction reflected relief from uncertainty rather than surprise over the election outcome. Polymarket had assigned Democrats more than 75% odds of winning for an extended period, indicating that traders had already factored in much of the result.

Quatravaux also highlighted elevated activity in Bitcoin options markets on election day. Block trades reached approximately $660 million in notional value, more than double the previous day’s volume. Traders purchased around $420 million worth of call options, compared with approximately $105 million in call options sold.

Call options allow traders to benefit from potential price increases, while put options provide exposure to potential declines. Block trades are large transactions privately negotiated outside the public order book.

Market participants bought approximately $230 million in Bitcoin call options while positioning for a possible post-election rebound. Meanwhile, as BTC approached its session lows, other traders sold options to collect premiums from protective positions and take advantage of elevated volatility.

The recovery was also reflected in traditional financial markets. Nasdaq futures regained most of their earlier losses, trading near 28,200 points and down just 0.3% after falling more than 2% earlier in the session.

Martin Lee, head of insights at DWF Labs, said the election outcome had removed a significant source of market anxiety, helping investors regain confidence and return to riskier assets. He also pointed to similar price movements across the S&P 500 and Nasdaq markets on Hyperliquid.

Bitcoin Recovery Faces Resistance Between $80,000 and $82,000

Markus Thielen, founder of 10x Research, believes Bitcoin could extend its recovery based on signals from the daily stochastic indicator. The momentum indicator currently points to oversold conditions, suggesting BTC has room to rebound toward $82,000.

Thielen also highlighted Trump’s commitment to respecting the election results and renewed expectations for peace negotiations following voters’ opposition to the war. He believes these developments, combined with Bitcoin’s oversold technical position, could support another move toward the $82,000 level.

Vikram Subburaj, CEO of India-based Giottus, said the next several trading sessions will be crucial in determining whether Bitcoin’s rebound can develop into a sustained upward trend.

According to Subburaj, Bitcoin maintaining support above $78,000 despite continued spot ETF outflows would suggest that other market participants are absorbing the available selling pressure. A shift in ETF flows toward net inflows would provide an additional source of demand and reinforce the recovery.

He noted that ETF selling pressure has already eased considerably, although a sustained return of net inflows would be needed to establish stronger confidence in the market’s recovery.

Data from SoSoValue shows that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $515 million in net outflows throughout October. A comparable amount was withdrawn during just the first two trading sessions of November. Continued redemptions, alongside negative readings in the Coinbase premium indicator, suggest that underlying demand remains weak.

Lacie Zhang, research lead at Bitget Wallet, said Bitcoin needs to attract positive net capital flows to establish a stronger foundation for a sustained recovery.

Zhang added that BTC remains in a consolidation range below the $80,000–$82,000 resistance zone. While the rapid rebound represents an encouraging development, Bitcoin must break above this region with sustained spot market demand and institutional participation to confirm that the recovery has lasting momentum.
