Bitcoin dips on geopolitical news but quickly recovers amid reports of the U.S. capturing Maduro.

The U.S. launched an overnight military operation in Venezuela, capturing President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and removing them from the country.

Former President Donald Trump confirmed early Saturday that the strike was “large scale” and resulted in the detention of both Maduro and Flores.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the couple has been indicted in the Southern District of New York on multiple drug trafficking and weapons charges.

Crypto markets reacted briefly to the news. Bitcoin (BTC) fell about 0.5% to $89,300 around 2 a.m. ET, before rebounding to just under $90,000 by 9 a.m. ET.

Trump is scheduled to hold a news conference at 11 a.m. ET to provide additional details.
