BTC Climbs as Williams’ 2027 Rate Outlook Boosts Market Sentiment
Bitcoin rose toward $84,000 in Asian trading on Wednesday after New York Fed President John Williams indicated that further interest rate increases would not be necessary in 2027. The comments pressured the U.S. dollar and supported a recovery in Asian stocks as investors prepared for Thursday’s U.S. inflation data.
Bitcoin gained 1.5%, reaching just below $83,900 during the Asian morning session. ZEC posted the strongest performance among major cryptocurrencies, climbing nearly 7% to about $1,270. Solana (SOL) and Dogecoin (DOGE) each added 2.5%, while Ether (ETH) advanced 2% to roughly $2,520. XRP, BNB and HYPE rose between 1% and 2%, while TRON (TRX) recorded a gain of less than 1%, according to CoinDesk data.
Williams said a further rate increase could still be appropriate before the end of this year. Despite that possibility, his remarks helped the S&P 500 recover some of Tuesday’s decline. Futures linked to the index rose 0.2%, while the benchmark remained close to the record high set last week.
Asian chip stocks also recovered, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix ending a five-day losing streak. The earlier sell-off had triggered liquidations of leveraged positions tied to chip stocks on crypto exchanges earlier this week. MSCI’s Asia-Pacific equity index rose 0.7%, rebounding after two consecutive sessions of losses pushed it to its lowest closing level since August.
Investors are also focused on earnings from major semiconductor companies. ASML, which manufactures equipment used in chip production, is scheduled to report on Wednesday, while Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is due to release its results on Thursday.
Oil prices continued climbing as renewed attacks in the Middle East raised concerns about the restoration of energy shipments from the Persian Gulf. Brent crude advanced 0.7% to around $106 per barrel, while U.S. crude recorded a fifth consecutive daily gain.
Thursday’s U.S. inflation report is expected to influence expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next policy decisions. A softer reading could reduce the likelihood of another rate increase and potentially give Bitcoin the momentum to challenge $85,000.
