Bitcoin Maintains $76K Support Amid Broader Market Uncertainty

Bitcoin was changing hands at around $76,300 on September 17, up roughly 1% over the previous 24 hours. The cryptocurrency’s market value was estimated at $1.532 trillion, while its daily trading volume was close to $29 billion.

The market update came after the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act failed to clear a procedural hurdle in the Senate. The legislation fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance during Tuesday’s vote. Before the vote, Bitcoin had dropped from almost $80,000 to about $75,600 on September 16.

The result temporarily slowed the push for a comprehensive U.S. framework governing crypto markets. Senate Democrats prevented the measure from advancing, citing concerns over government ethics requirements and potential presidential conflicts of interest. Opposition from community banks over stablecoin reward provisions, combined with Republican defections, also weakened support for the bill.

The vote did not represent a final decision on the CLARITY Act. Instead, lawmakers were deciding whether the measure could proceed to the next stage. Its future remains uncertain as the midterm legislative calendar moves closer. Crypto-related shares, including Coinbase, Robinhood and Strategy, also came under pressure during the market decline surrounding the vote.

Bitcoin has a maximum supply of 21 million coins and remains the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. The September 17 snapshot showed 20,085,571 BTC in circulation. The provider’s 2026 outlook expects the cryptocurrency to remain in a recovery phase rather than begin another major push toward record highs. It forecasts a price range of $59,500 to $84,200, with an average of approximately $71,400.

The forecast highlights Federal Reserve rate cuts and continued spot Bitcoin ETF inflows ahead of the 2028 halving as potential sources of support. In contrast, prolonged high interest rates and a sustained decline below $58,300 are cited as significant downside risks.

Several technical levels are also being monitored. The analysis was prepared when Bitcoin was trading in the low-$60,000s and below its 50-day moving average of roughly $65,143 and its 200-day moving average near $74,705. The RSI stood around 48, while the Fear & Greed Index was in Extreme Fear territory.

Bitcoin’s move above $76,000 on September 17 placed it above the $74,705 200-day moving average highlighted in the analysis. However, the framework considers sustained acceptance above that level more important than a temporary move above it.

The CLARITY Act remains a key part of the regulatory discussion, with the next question being whether lawmakers can rebuild enough support for the legislation. Yahoo Finance highlighted disputes over ethics provisions, conflicts of interest and stablecoin regulations surrounding the Senate vote.

On the technical side, $74,705 remains the key longer-term level identified in the analysis. Additional downside areas include $62,460, the $60,000-$61,000 range and $58,300.

Meanwhile, traders continue to watch Federal Reserve policy, spot ETF flows and the 2028 Bitcoin halving as broader market catalysts. The Senate’s procedural vote is an important regulatory development, but it is only one of several factors affecting Bitcoin’s market outlook.
