Hunter Biden Fires Back as LAPTOP Debuts Wednesday and TRUMP Faces “Grift” Attack

Hunter Biden has defended his LAPTOP memecoin ahead of its Wednesday launch, describing it as an attempt to reclaim a controversy that has remained tied to his public image for years. He also criticized Donald Trump’s TRUMP token, referring to it as a “grift.”

Biden said LAPTOP is intended to stand for “resilience, redemption and recovery.” The project plans to distribute tokens through community airdrops, including to nearly one million wallets that reportedly lost money on TRUMP.

Writing on X during the early Asian hours Wednesday, Biden acknowledged the skepticism surrounding the project. He questioned why a subject that had been exploited by people seeking to profit from it could not instead be turned into something with a different purpose.

Biden cited losses of approximately $3.8 billion across nearly one million TRUMP wallets following the token’s decline from its 2025 peak. LAPTOP plans to dedicate 20% of its supply to community distributions, with some of the allocation going to those affected TRUMP holders.

The token’s structure includes another 30% tied to predictions involving politics, cryptocurrency and culture. Tokens connected to predictions that turn out to be correct will be burned, while those associated with incorrect predictions will be donated to charity.

Founders, including Biden, are set to receive 30% of the total supply. Biden said those holdings will be governed by lockup and vesting conditions.

He also cautioned investors against assuming that he or other participants would work to increase LAPTOP’s price. Instead, he characterized the token as a way to make a statement rather than simply acquire an asset with the expectation of financial gains.

The project has faced a wave of criticism from crypto traders in the days leading up to its launch.

Kraken deleted a promotional post featuring LAPTOP after traders criticized the exchange. Andrew Callaghan, the journalist behind Channel 5, also distanced himself from the project after his audience was included in plans for a token giveaway.

Base, the Coinbase-developed blockchain hosting LAPTOP, separately emphasized that it is not a partner in the project. Base founder Jesse Pollak said the project had contacted his team, but Base ultimately decided not to participate in its development or promotion.

LAPTOP’s name refers to the long-running controversy surrounding a laptop attributed to Biden. Information reportedly obtained from the device included emails concerning his overseas business activities, alongside personal photographs, messages and videos involving drug use and his private life. The material became a recurring feature of political attacks and inspired a large number of online memes.

Biden is now seeking to transform that controversial history into the core narrative of LAPTOP, turning an object that became a political weapon into the basis of a cryptocurrency project.
