S&P Rolls Out Index Featuring 15 Cryptos and 35 Publicly Traded Crypto Firms

S&P Dow Jones Indices, part of S&P Global, is preparing to introduce a hybrid index that combines traditional stocks with digital assets, offering investors a comprehensive benchmark for tracking the rapidly evolving crypto sector.

The S&P Digital Markets 50 Index will feature 35 publicly traded companies involved in blockchain, crypto infrastructure, and financial services, alongside 15 cryptocurrencies from S&P’s Broad Digital Market Index. This cross-asset benchmark captures both the performance of companies building the digital asset ecosystem and the tokens that power it.

Dinari, a platform that tokenizes U.S. equities, collaborated on the index and will issue a blockchain-based token, the “dShare”, allowing investors to track the index directly on-chain. The token is designed to be transparent and accessible across blockchain networks.

The move reflects a growing trend of institutional investors integrating digital assets into their core portfolios, beyond speculative trading. “From North America to Europe to Asia, market participants are beginning to treat digital assets as part of their investment toolkit,” said Cameron Drinkwater, Chief Product & Operations Officer at S&P Dow Jones Indices.

The index provides a way to gain crypto exposure while mitigating the volatility of individual tokens.

Crypto-related stocks have gained momentum this year amid regulatory clarity and mainstream adoption. Coinbase (COIN) has climbed 50% year-to-date, while Robinhood (HOOD), which expanded its crypto offerings and acquired a crypto exchange, has surged over 250% since January.

Dinari highlighted that the tokenization effort aims to modernize index investing. “We’re not just tokenizing an index, we’re showing how blockchain infrastructure can modernize trusted benchmarks,” said Anna Wroblewska, Dinari’s Chief Business Officer.

The Digital Markets 50 Index adds to S&P’s growing suite of crypto-focused benchmarks, marking a continued integration of traditional finance with digital assets. A launch date has not yet been announced.
