XRP Ledger 3.0.0 Update Boosts Accounting, APIs, and Protocol Stability

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has launched version 3.0.0 of its reference server software, rippled, featuring a wide array of amendments, bug fixes, and internal upgrades to improve accounting accuracy, developer tools, and overall protocol reliability.

Server operators are required to upgrade to maintain network compatibility, according to RippleX, the team overseeing XRPL’s core software. While the release introduces no major user-facing features, it addresses ledger inconsistencies, strengthens API behavior, and refactors core systems in preparation for future protocol upgrades — key steps as XRPL expands into tokenization, DeFi, and institutional applications.

A critical amendment, fixTokenEscrowV1, corrects an accounting error affecting multi-purpose tokens (MPTs) held in escrow. Previously, escrowed tokens with transfer fees subtracted the gross instead of the net amount from the issuer’s balance, creating compounding discrepancies. The fix ensures accurate supply tracking as tokenized assets increasingly rely on XRPL’s escrow and fee mechanisms.

Other updates improve automated market makers (AMMs), price oracles, token delivery metadata, consensus stall detection, logging, JSON parsing, and CI tooling. Security enhancements include stricter signature verification and elevated warnings for malformed validator manifests.

By resolving token accounting issues, tightening APIs, and refactoring core systems, XRPL 3.0.0 strengthens the ledger’s foundation for complex financial use cases and institutional adoption.
