Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Reserve, Buying 1,111 BTC for $117M to Surpass 11K Total Holdings
Metaplanet Purchases 1,111 Bitcoin for $117 Million, Total Holdings Now Exceed 11,000 BTC
Metaplanet, the Tokyo-listed hospitality company that has pivoted into significant bitcoin investment, has added 1,111 BTC to its balance sheet in a $117 million buy.
The acquisition came at an average price of $105,681 per bitcoin, timed during a dip in the crypto market caused by geopolitical tensions. Over the weekend, bitcoin briefly slid to around $98,000 after U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, creating a strategic buying window.
Since then, bitcoin has rebounded, trading above $101,000 as of Monday.
This latest purchase lifts Metaplanet’s total bitcoin holdings to 11,111 BTC, valued at over $1.1 billion. The company’s average cost basis across its holdings now sits at roughly $95,700 per bitcoin.
