Metaplanet Adds 1,004 BTC to Reserves, Bringing Total Bitcoin Assets Above $800 Million

Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet has bolstered its bitcoin stash by adding 1,004 BTC in its latest purchase, totaling roughly $104.3 million, according to a disclosure made Monday.

This acquisition lifts Metaplanet’s overall bitcoin holdings to 7,800 BTC, with the new batch bought at an average price of $103,873 per coin.

The firm’s total bitcoin portfolio, originally accumulated at an average price of $91,300, is now valued at over $806 million based on current market prices. Metaplanet aims to increase its bitcoin holdings to 10,000 BTC by the close of 2025.

Metaplanet began building its bitcoin treasury in April 2024, following a strategy akin to that of major corporate holders like MicroStrategy (MSTR).

Bitcoin has been trading just under its all-time highs, hovering around $103,343, as the broader cryptocurrency market rallies on improved macroeconomic sentiment.

To finance its bitcoin purchases, Metaplanet has issued multiple bonds, recently completing its 15th ordinary bond sale worth $15 million.
