Japan’s SBI introduces a feature letting users trade credit card points for Bitcoin, Ether, and XRP.
SBI Group’s APLUS Program in Japan Enables Credit Card Points to Be Redeemed for Cryptocurrency
Japan’s SBI Group has expanded its APLUS loyalty program to allow credit card users to convert accumulated points into cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), and XRP. This new option adds digital assets to the usual rewards lineup, which previously included cashbacks and partner gift options.
Currently, 2,100 points can be exchanged for a little over 2,000 yen (approximately $13), credited directly as crypto tokens to users’ VC Trade accounts via SBI’s exchange arm.
While the crypto rewards are modest, this marks an important step in integrating cryptocurrency into everyday financial services. SBI, a longtime supporter of Ripple, was among the first to list XRP on its VC Trade platform back in 2018.
This initiative reflects the growing acceptance of cryptocurrencies within Japan’s regulatory environment, offering users a seamless and compliant way to experience digital assets without heavy marketing or risk.
