Hack Hits Eric Semler’s X Account, Promotes Solana-Linked Token.

Semler Scientific Chairman’s X Account Hacked, Promotes Solana Token That Spikes and Crashes

Eric Semler, the chairman of Semler Scientific, appears to have had his X account compromised, with several posts promoting the launch of a Solana-based token that shares the same ticker symbol, SMLR, as the company’s stock on Nasdaq.

The hacked account shared a message claiming the token aims to “bridge institutional-grade Bitcoin exposure to a high-performance ecosystem with deep liquidity and low fees” by launching on the Solana blockchain. Additional posts suggested that a large portion of the token’s supply had been moved to major cryptocurrency exchanges.

The new token, listed on the Solana-powered decentralized exchange Raydium under the symbol SMLR, saw a dramatic 300% increase in its value after launch. However, its price has since crashed, dropping by 77% from its peak, according to DEXScreener data.

CoinDesk has reached out to Semler Scientific for a statement regarding the incident.
