Despite Market Pressure, Metaplanet Commits $54M More to Bitcoin

Metaplanet Buys 463 More Bitcoin, Total Holdings Now Worth Over $1.78B

Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet (3350) has expanded its bitcoin treasury once again, purchasing 463 BTC for 7.995 billion yen (approximately $540 million), the company disclosed on Monday.

The latest acquisition, made at an average price of 17.3 million yen per BTC, brings Metaplanet’s total holdings to 17,595 BTC. The firm has now invested around 261.28 billion yen in bitcoin, making it one of the largest BTC holders among public companies in Asia.

Despite the accumulation, Metaplanet’s stock continues to slide. Shares fell over 7% on Monday to 987 yen — nearly 50% below their June peak. The company is positioning itself as a regional proxy for bitcoin, offering traditional equity investors exposure to the asset in the absence of a spot ETF in Japan.

Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Yield — a metric tracking BTC accumulation per share — has declined to 52.6% as of August 4, down from 129.4% in Q2 and 309.8% in Q4 2024, reflecting both dilution and slowed purchasing pace.

Still, the firm remains committed to its long-term bitcoin strategy, describing the asset as a key driver of shareholder value.
