‘D.O.G.E. Excludes Dogecoin,’ States Elon Musk, Noted Advocate of the Meme Coin
Elon Musk Shuts Down Dogecoin Integration Rumors in Government Efficiency Initiative
Hopes that Dogecoin might play a role in the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.) were dashed on Sunday, as Elon Musk clarified that the agency has no plans to incorporate the popular memecoin.
“There are no plans for the government to use Dogecoin or any cryptocurrency, really,” Musk said during his appearance at the America PAC town hall in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The quirky naming of the department had sparked speculation from the start. Musk revealed he originally considered naming it the “Government Efficiency Commission” before settling on the D.O.G.E. acronym after internet users suggested it. “The internet had a better idea,” Musk said.
Adding fuel to the speculation, the D.O.G.E. website briefly displayed Dogecoin’s logo shortly after President Donald Trump’s inauguration—something that many saw as a deliberate Easter egg hinting at crypto involvement. That momentary logo, however, appears to have been more meme than message.
Despite not being tied to Dogecoin, the D.O.G.E. initiative has shown real-world results. Since its formal launch in January, the agency has reportedly saved over $130 billion in federal spending, with average taxpayer savings around $840.
Dogecoin, meanwhile, slipped 3.5% in value over the past 24 hours amid a broader downturn in crypto markets. The token had previously rallied following the announcement of the department, alongside a flurry of similarly named spinoff tokens that tried to ride the hype.
