Bybit Rallies Crypto Community to Track and Freeze Lazarus Group’s Stolen Funds
Bybit Declares ‘War’ on Lazarus, Offers Bounty to Track Stolen Crypto
Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has launched a public campaign against North Korea’s Lazarus Group, introducing a new website that tracks the group’s wallet addresses and offering a 5% bounty for tips leading to the freezing of stolen funds.
Bybit CEO Ben Zhou took to social media to announce the initiative, calling it the first-ever platform designed to provide “full transparency on sanctioned Lazarus money laundering operations.” According to Zhou, users can link their wallets to the site and contribute to the effort to recover stolen assets. If their submissions result in frozen funds, they will receive a bounty payout immediately.
“We have a dedicated team maintaining and updating this website, and we won’t stop until Lazarus and other bad actors are eliminated,” Zhou stated. “In the future, we aim to expand this initiative to help other victims of Lazarus as well.”
At present, the website is tracking 6,338 addresses associated with the hacking group, with approximately $42.3 million already frozen—equivalent to just over 3% of the stolen funds.
The campaign follows last Friday’s record-breaking $1.5 billion exploit of Bybit, an attack attributed to Lazarus. Analysts have called it “the largest crypto theft in history by far,” leading to significant market turbulence and a decline in digital asset prices.
Bybit’s aggressive approach marks a new front in the fight against crypto-related cybercrime, leveraging crowdsourced intelligence to disrupt illicit financial activity.
