Bitdeer Purchases 101 MW Gas Power Facility in Alberta to Boost BTC Mining Capacity.

Bitdeer, a prominent Bitcoin mining company, has secured a 101-MW gas-powered plant near Fox Creek, Alberta, in a $21.7 million deal to launch a fully integrated BTC mining operation. The facility marks Bitdeer’s first venture into Canada, as the company strives to gain control over its mining costs and efficiency.

“This is an exciting step for us in Alberta, where we will establish our first Canadian operation,” said Haris Basit, Bitdeer’s Chief Strategy Officer. “With this acquisition, we take a major leap towards our goal of becoming the first completely vertically integrated Bitcoin miner, giving us unrivaled control over our energy, operational costs, and scalability.”

Bitdeer plans to develop a 99-MW data center at the site, which is expandable up to 1 GW. The energy production cost at the facility will range from $20 to $25 per MW/h. The plant also has a 99 MW license to connect to the local power grid, with the company planning to sell excess power back to the grid during high-demand periods to maintain price stability.

“By combining self-sustained power production, SEALMINER mining equipment, and strategic grid participation, we expect this project to redefine the industry’s cost structures,” Basit stated.

Bitdeer expects to begin site preparations and infrastructure development by Q2 2025, with the operation scheduled to be fully functional by Q4 2026.
