XRP Futures May Soon Be Available on Coinbase Institutional
Coinbase Moves to Launch XRP Futures, Files with CFTC
Coinbase Institutional has filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to offer regulated XRP futures contracts, according to a company announcement on Friday.
The filing, submitted by Coinbase Derivatives, outlines plans to self-certify a cash-settled, margined futures product under the ticker XRL. Each contract will represent 10,000 XRP, settled in USD, and is expected to go live on April 21, 2025.
“Coinbase Derivatives has filed with the CFTC to self-certify $XRP futures,” the company said on X. “This brings a regulated, capital-efficient way to access one of crypto’s most liquid assets.”
The contracts will cover the current and next two calendar months, with a circuit breaker in place to halt trading if XRP’s spot price moves 10% or more within an hour.
This marks the second CFTC-compliant XRP futures product to hit U.S. markets, following Bitnomial’s March launch. XRP is currently trading down 2% over the past 24 hours, in line with broader market declines.
