Metaplanet Acquires 150 More Bitcoin, Hits 68% BTC Yield in 2025

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has expanded its Bitcoin treasury with the purchase of an additional 150 BTC, pushing its total holdings to 3,350 BTC—now valued at approximately $291 million based on current market rates.

The acquisition follows Metaplanet’s recent appointment of Eric Trump, son of U.S. President Donald Trump, to its newly created strategic advisory board. His role is expected to bring increased visibility and influence to the company’s Bitcoin-focused strategy.

Metaplanet uses BTC Yield as a core performance measure, tracking Bitcoin accumulation relative to its total shares. The firm reported a BTC Yield of 41.7% in Q3 2024, which skyrocketed to 309.8% in Q4 after a series of aggressive Bitcoin buys. For 2025 so far, the metric has reached 68.3% as of March 24, underscoring the firm’s commitment to its Bitcoin investment thesis.

Dylan LeClair, Metaplanet’s Head of Bitcoin Strategy, noted in an X post that the company saw a surge in trading activity, becoming the 13th most liquid stock in Japan. With a daily trading volume of $336.6 million, Metaplanet’s shares even surpassed the likes of Toyota and Nintendo, closing the day 7% higher above 5,000 yen.
