U.S. Government Moves $100M+ in Crypto as Bitcoin, BNB Transfers Surface

U.S. government-linked cryptocurrency wallets transferred more than $100 million worth of digital assets on Tuesday, according to blockchain intelligence company Arkham.

The transactions involved 833.599 BTC, valued at roughly $71.6 million at the time. The bitcoin was sent to two addresses that are not labeled by Arkham. Both addresses later moved the full amounts to wallets that Arkham identifies as Coinbase Prime deposit addresses.

Another wallet identified by Arkham as belonging to the U.S. government transferred about 40,285 BNB, worth approximately $31.63 million, to the unlabeled address 0x7F68F63fB3A9CCCf352409603421E0A574FbAD90. Those tokens were then transferred in full to a second unidentified wallet, 0x6fB3Fe7b7E78AbB84CE007cBC7412C850B15A579.

The BTC originated from two groups of seized assets: 568.7 BTC from a wallet Arkham labels as Potapenko/Turogin forfeited funds and 264.9 BTC seized in the Bitfinex hack case. The BNB was part of assets seized from Alameda Research.

The U.S. government remains in possession of roughly $27.5 billion in cryptocurrency, according to Arkham. The holdings consist of assets seized through enforcement actions, rather than crypto purchased with taxpayer funds.

Such large transfers can lead to speculation that the government is preparing to sell, particularly when funds ultimately reach addresses associated with an exchange. However, the transactions do not establish that a sale has taken place or is imminent.

“Transfer is not the same as a sale,” market commentator Jose Rosell said on X. He pointed to a March 2025 executive order stating that bitcoin forfeited to the government is intended to be held in a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.
