Cardano Faces Builder Risk as Hoskinson Pushes Back Against Criticism
Hoskinson Says Builder Support Is Key to Cardano’s Future
Charles Hoskinson has emphasized that Cardano’s future growth depends on the applications built across its infrastructure. During a recent livestream, the Cardano founder encouraged the community and Cardano Foundation to support Midnight along with other major projects operating within the ecosystem.
Hoskinson made the comments in a livestream titled “Devs versus Builders,” where he discussed criticism aimed at Midnight and its recent strategic adjustments. He argued that Cardano’s purpose goes beyond providing smart-contract functionality or processing ADA transfers. According to Hoskinson, the network gains greater value when developers use its infrastructure to create applications that attract users, customers and economic activity.
The Cardano founder has previously expressed a similar view. In April, he told critics that Cardano “needs to grow up or die” after a stake pool operator alleged that Midnight’s early one-way bridge was damaging the ADA ecosystem.
During the latest broadcast, Hoskinson questioned the opposition to Midnight from parts of the community, particularly given the project’s scale within Cardano’s ecosystem. He warned that continued criticism of successful projects could send a negative signal to developers evaluating Cardano as a platform for future applications.
Midnight’s Growing Role
Midnight is positioned as a privacy-focused blockchain that allows applications to shield sensitive information while maintaining verifiability, according to its developer materials. Hoskinson stressed that Midnight is not intended to compete with Cardano or operate as a completely separate venture. He instead described it as one of the ecosystem’s largest projects.
At the same time, Hoskinson said Midnight must also address its own challenges. He urged the project to focus on simplicity, universal applicability and lower operating costs. In his view, advances in technology alone will not be sufficient to overcome cultural issues within the ecosystem.
For traders, the key consideration is therefore less about an immediate ADA price move and more about Cardano’s ability to maintain developer momentum. Investors may watch whether the Cardano Foundation increases its public promotion of Midnight and whether tensions between “devs” and “builders” diminish.
A reduction in those tensions could help preserve developer activity, while continued disagreements could discourage teams from choosing Cardano for new projects.
Hoskinson ended by reaffirming his commitment to Cardano. He acknowledged that he could leave but said he remains involved because he believes the project still has unfinished work.
The remarks highlight a broader governance and culture debate rather than offering a direct prediction for ADA. Hoskinson’s concern is that persistent internal criticism could eventually undermine builder confidence and become a drag on Cardano’s ecosystem development.
