Metaplanet Bolsters Bitcoin Reserves With $13.5M Buy and Bond Offering

Japanese hospitality company Metaplanet (3350) has expanded its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings, purchasing 162 BTC for $13.5 million at an average price of $83,123 per coin. This move has driven the firm’s year-to-date BTC yield to 53.2%.

The BTC yield measures the percentage change in Bitcoin holdings relative to fully diluted shares over time. As of March 12, Metaplanet’s total BTC stash has grown to 3,050 BTC, now worth approximately $253.7 million, with an average acquisition price of $83,180 per coin.

To further its Bitcoin strategy, Metaplanet issued 2 billion JPY ($13.5 million) in zero-interest ordinary bonds, positioning itself for future BTC purchases. Despite its aggressive accumulation strategy, the company’s stock was trading at 3,630 yen at the time of writing, reflecting a nearly 50% pullback from its February peak.
