Former Wall Street Executive Joins Core Scientific as CFO
Core Scientific Appoints Jim Nygaard as CFO, Stock Sees Pre-Market Boost
Core Scientific, Inc. (CORZ), a leading bitcoin mining and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure provider, has named Jim Nygaard as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective March 17.
Nygaard, a finance veteran with extensive experience in corporate strategy, M&A, and capital markets, previously held leadership positions at XMS Capital Partners and Morgan Stanley. The company announced his appointment in a statement on Monday.
“Jim’s expertise in financial strategy and market dynamics will be a key asset as we continue our expansion and drive long-term growth,” said CEO Adam Sullivan.
Nygaard replaces outgoing CFO Denise Sterling, who successfully led Core Scientific through its Chapter 11 restructuring and played a crucial role in securing over $1 billion in capital. Sterling will remain in her role until May 1 to oversee a smooth transition. The company had initially disclosed its CFO succession plan on September 6.
The leadership change follows Core Scientific’s recent $1.2 billion data center expansion in partnership with CoreWeave.
Shares of CORZ rose 2% in pre-market trading but remain down over 20% year-to-date.
