Shiba Inu Developers Overcome Final Hurdle for LEASH v2 Launch
Shiba Inu Clears Path for LEASH v2 Migration
10/9/2025
Shiba Inu developers confirmed Tuesday that the long-delayed LEASH v2 migration will begin in the coming days, after security firm Hexens signed off on the new token and its migration contract.
The approval resolves months of uncertainty stemming from a hidden flaw in LEASH v1. Originally marketed as a fixed-supply token, the contract contained a rebase mechanism and a “hidden-in-plain-sight” control path, allowing pre-authorized proxies to alter supply. Earlier this year, exploitation of the flaw increased token supply by 20%, undermining confidence in its scarcity.
LEASH v2 is designed to close the loophole permanently. The full token supply has already been minted into a multisignature wallet, and the contract cannot mint new tokens. During migration, v1 tokens will be locked or burned, while v2 tokens are distributed proportionally to holders.
The redesign uses OpenZeppelin ERC-20 libraries for simplicity and auditability, with advanced features like privacy layers planned for future wrappers.
SHIB prices were down 1% over 24 hours, reflecting a flat broader crypto market.
